Renegade Stem Review

So I’ve had a Unite Co Renegade Mountain Bike Stem on all my personal bikes for the last few years. It is not only a very reliable high-quality stem but it is in my opinion the best looking stem on the market. Unite have made a stem that has smooth flowing lines and a flush fit, this stem looks good on all bikes and is also available in two sizes and eight different colours.

One of my favourite things about this stem is that the stem cap sits perfectly flush. I’ve borrowed an image from Unite to show this as my steerer hasn’t been cut down yet in the pictures in this article.

As well as the flush-fitting top cap the faceplate also fits perfectly and this is because Unite machine both the body and faceplate at the same time. All these small touches make for a very good-looking MTB stem.

The Stem is CNC machined from a high-grade block of 6082 aluminum. It features a wide clamp area and zero top gap to ensure you have a stiff stem. This is really important for both the strength of the stem itself and to ensure you are getting the best performance from your bike without any twisting and flex.

Another thing you will notice about this stem is the weight. It’s nice and light for an MTB stem which are often heavier as they have extra material to ensure they are up to the test when facing the brutal stresses of mountain biking. The Unite stem has been machined in a clever way where they have managed to remove all unnecessary material without affecting performance. Perfect for those that are looking to keep the weight of their bikes down.

Overall this an excellent stem and I don’t have any negative points to mention. You wouldn’t regret buying one.
