Cyclorise have announced a new product in their line up. The Ochain ‘Active’ spider. Designed to give you a chainless feeling when riding.
The idea behind the Ochain is to offer the feeling and benefits from riding chainless whilst still allowing you to maintain a pedal stroke.
If you have never experience riding chainless then you may not know how great it feels. Pedal Kickback is removed, braking performance improves and suspension performance is also dramatically improved, however, the big downside is that you can’t pedal. That’s where Ochain comes in.
Once upon a time…a man was staring at the monitor watching the UCI World Cup in Hafjell, just like a typical downhill rider and fan. After watching Aaron Gwin winning chainless in Leogang his inner nerd and engineer thought “what kind of advantage could come from this situation for both rider and their bike?”. What followed was an informal gathering of passionate engineers, riders and designers who set to work on an active spider concept. This spider would allow for suspension and control benefits of chainless riding, but also fulfilling the obvious need to enabling pedalling.
Chainless riding means flowing sensations, absent pedal kickback, extremely good braking performance and removes negative effects of pedal weight on suspension making you ride faster and smoother.

How does Ochain work?
Ochain enables your chain to move freely as your suspension compresses, disconnecting rider resistance over steep, rough and technical terrain. It also allows significantly improved braking performance.
The Ochain which you can buy from Cyclorise directly for £279.99 is available for most cranksets including SRAM, Race Face, E*Thirteen, Hope and Shimano.
You can also buy replacement titanium chainring bolts and a replacement elastomer kit.
This isn’t a cheap upgrade but if it does truly give you that chainless feel then it could be worth the money. Keep an eye out for our review coming soon!

I’d be interested to see what difference this makes in day to day riding. I don’t think I’d notice the difference apart from when I’m doing long defends in the alps.
