Magicshine MOH 25 Headlamp Review

In review, we take a look at the Magicshine MOH 25 1000 headlamp, a 500-lumen head torch.

Similar to the MOH 35 we have reviewed separately the MOH 25 is not intended for cycling but is a great all-around companion for outdoor enthusiasts. The optical lens creates 500 maximum lumens and casts a focused 80-meter beam. Ideal for running, hiking, camping and almost all outdoor activities.

In an ideal world, I’d have headed straight into the wilds of North Wales or Scotland on an adventure trip in the mountains to test this headlamp but with Covid-19 still causing a UK wide if not Global lockdown that unfortunately was not an option. So instead I headed to the South Downs which is local to me and went on a massive hike that ended in the pitch black.

The first impressions of the product is that like all the Magicshine products we’ve tested it looks and feels really premium. The product comes in nice packaging, includes a charging cable and clear to read and understand instructions. I was required to charge the torch before use so plugged it into a micro USB charger and a few hours later it was good to go.

The MOH 25 comes with an adjustable headband that goes around your head in a single loop. The adjuster is easy to use but I did find that adjusting on the fly on a hike can cause it to come undone. Not to worry though as it’s easy to reattach and it’s sturdy as long as your not fiddling with the adjuster.

The torch is light and small enough to keep in your pocket until needed. This is handy as I didn’t want a torch on my head during the day but it was convenient enough to access when the night started drawing in. The light has 4 power modes which allow you to adjust the brightness from 5-500 lumens in white light and up to 105 lumens in red light mode. 500 Lumens is plenty bright enough to see where you are going and the battery lasted long enough for my hike, however, it did switch to a lower brightness setting automatically towards the end of the hike as the battery started to get low. This is a great feature as I was still able to see where I was going and was also aware that I needed to end my hike sooner rather than later.

It’s very easy to adjust the angle of the light purely by twisting it and it is comfortable to wear even for multiple hours at a time. I did find that the lack of a strap over the top of your head did cause the light to move around a little bit when running so I would suggest this light is better aimed at walking, camping and less intense activities. Magicshine offers other products that would be better suited to running in my opinion such as the MOH 35 headlamp.

Priced at a very reasonable £42.99 here in the UK you are getting a very good quality value for money headlamp that will exceed expectations and is durable to withstand the elements where other head torches fall short. I would certainly recommend this product.

What do you think of the Magicshine MOH 25 Headlamp? Do you find this non-bike specific content useful or would you prefer we stuck to MTB products? Personally, I use head torches on my MTB and Outdoor adventure trips a lot whether camping or working on the bike at night where bike lights are more hassle than they are worth.
