FirecrestMTB Launch the Girls DeVo Coaching Programme
Firecrest Mountain Bike Coaching launch their Girls MTB Coaching as part of their DeVo Programme with athlete Maxine Filby as the coach. Read on to learn more about the Girls mountain bike coaching.
Firecrest Girls MTB Coaching
Firecrest Mountain Biking’s Young Rider Development Programme known as DeVo for short has been running for over 10 years with its roots back in the early noughties. Girls DeVo is the latest addition to the Programme of DeVo Courses offered to young mountain bikers. The aim of Girls DeVo is simple: to encourage more young female riders into the gravity side of mountain biking giving them the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence and meet and shred with other young female mountain bikers.
The Girls DeVo Coach, Maxine Filby, is a brand ambassador for Cannondale bringing the brand together with Girls DeVo and giving the girls on the course the chance to ride the latest bikes creating a fantastic opportunity to both support both grassroots mountain biking and the girls taking part in the courses.
”To ride with girls who all love downhill is so awesome to see let alone be part of! We were lucky enough to be able to ride one of the latest Cannondale Mountain Bikes and be coached by the amazing Maxine! She helped us gain confidence on everything we tried, and demonstrated what she wanted us to do which was very helpful.
Overall it was an amazing experience, to meet girls who share a passion for the sport and get coached all in one go is something you don’t see much of! Thanks to Firecrest MTB for organising the event and Cannondale for the loan of the bike and of course Maxine for the coaching

The next Girls DeVo is part of Womens’ MTB Day planned at Rushmere Country Park on Saturday 31st July 2021 with the Girls DeVo in the morning and the first Womens’ DeVo in the afternoon. Cannondale will be back with their Demo Fleet so there is the chance to test the latest bikes, with skills training sessions and bike maintenance sessions planned as part of a full day of activities. There are so many young women coming up in the sport now and it couldn’t be more exciting. As mountain biking becomes more open and inclusive we are seeing talent rising around the world and it’s thanks to programs such as the DeVo MTB Coaching and MTB Girls groups that are giving these young ladies more confidence and the skills to grow.
I have personally done many MTB Coaching sessions with Ian Warby from Firecrest Mountain Bike Coaching and they are brilliant! Maxine is an incredible cyclist who seems to dominate in any MTB discipline she tries. Did you know she is not only a world-class XC athelete but has just been crowned Downhill National Champ here in the UK! There aren’t many riders with those chops so you can guarantee that you are getting expert advice when receiving coaching from Maxine and Firecrest.
It’s also really nice to see brands like Cannondale backing these projects.
